Your Air Conditioning system contains a refrigerant, usually Freon. If your system develops a leak it will not cool efficiently and eventually will stop cooling all together. Running an AC system that is low on freon can cause the indoor coils to ice up, which can damage your compressor and other system components. Freon is also classified as an ozone-depleting chemical which can contribute to global warming.
